Boat Statistics
The model: Mitch built the original master plug for West Coast Custom Boats at the request of Craig Bradshaw. Craig made molds from the plug and offered the first boat out of the mold as compensation for building the plug. It won the 2015 and 2017 CT Season Championship in Division 2. Mitch sold the boat to David Newton in 2019. David promptly drove it to a CT Gold Cup victory, the first race he entered with it. The real boat: The boat began life as the 1982 Atlas Van Lines, driven by Chip Hanauer. The boat replaced the famed Blue Blaster after the death of Bill Muncey in 1981. The Atlas team sold the boat in 1984 and it became the red and brown Union Bay Squire Shop and was driven by Mickey Remund. In 1985 the boat was painted red and blue and run in the western part of the circuit as the Squire Shop Brittania and driven by Tom D'Eath. The boat managed to give the new turbine boats a run for their money on several occasions during the season and was on of the last really competitive piston teams of that era.
