The model:  David joined CT in 2018 and built this as his first 1:10 scale boat. He did a good job on the build and learned a lot. He immediately began thinking about what he would do differently on the next one. Like many first boats, it turned out heavier than expected and suffered a bit in handling because of it, but many improvements have been made to the hull. David is also looking to improve his driving consistency and finishes. He's getting a lot of wheel time now and gaining in experience. He finished the 2019 season 6th in season points, so the boat and driver are certainly competitive. Consistency will come with time.

The real boat:  The Smokin's Joe's was owned by Steve Woomer and driven by Mark Tate. It had previously been running as the Winston Eagle in 1993. In 1994 Mark Tate drove Smokin' Joe's to a Gold Cup win on home waters of the Detroit River.
