This model was builder Dave’s Helton's first 1/10th scale project.  Having built several 1/8th scale hydros, Dave found this boat enjoyable to build.  The boat was sold to Dan Clark in 2004.  Dan added a more detailed dummy motor and cockpit detail.  Dan qualified as a driver and drove the boat in competition for the first time at the CT 2005 Harmsworth. It was later sold to a buyer in Phoenix, Arizona in the summer of 2005.

Info about the real boat: This boat was driven by Chuck Hickling in 1960-64, first as the Miss Burien and later as the Tempest and Miss Michelob.  The boat later ran as the Roostertail and Savair’s Probe.  The Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum has restored her and she can be seen on display or even running on occasion.
