The model: Mike Schultz brought this very nice model out for the first time at the 08 Seafair race at Lacey.  The day ended for Mike and the Exide with a bang... literally.  In its second heat, one of the Nimh cells exploded, blowing a good section of the decks away and shooting the driver and dummy motor ten feet in the air.  It was spectacular, but we doubt whether the boat will see the water again after suffering such extensive damage.  The boat was refurbished and brought out again in 2014 under the new ownership of "Battery Dave" Sacry. Dave gave the boat to Nels Enquist, who ran it a few races in 2019. Pete Schille won the boat in a 2019 post-race drawing and has been doing more refurbishing. It is unknown what the future holds for this hull.

The real boat:  The 63 Exide didn't fare much better than Mike's model.  In just its second race, the ill-handling new boat crashed and was destroyed.  Driver Mira Slovak was injured in the accident, but would come back later to drive again and continue his extraordinary career.
