The model:  Mitch debuted this new boat in 2011 with race win at the Bryant Memorial.  Blowovers plagued the boat, so he modified the bottom and played with the balance some more.  The boat looks to be getting more stable.  It's the first time Mitch has used real mahogany to deck a boat and it turned out great.  He hopes to be able to race it for several years as it's one of his favorites.

The real boat:  Lee Schoenith drove this boat to its most famous win at the 55 Gold Cup in Seattle.  The Detroit based Gale team basically stole the Gold Cup from the dominant Seattle teams after being awarded 400 bonus points for the fastest total elapsed time for three heats of racing and narrowly outscoring Bill Muncey's Miss Thriftway.  The team took the Gold Cup back to Detroit for 1956 after a four year dominance of the race by the Slo-Mo-Shun teams.  It marked the high point of the Seattle vs Detroit rivalry of the 1950's.
