1960 Nitrogen Too

Hello, I am Johanna VandenAkker. I own this 10th scale Unlimited Hydroplane. The Nitrogen Too was built by Craig ("Sparticus") Mullen, painted by Mitch ("The Commish") Dillard, and geared up by ("Evil")Pete Schille. The driver is Bob ("Boom Boom") VandenAkker, my son. Oh well, 3 out of 4 isnt't bad. If Boom Boom doesn't win, HE'S FIRED!! I also belong to the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum ........you should TOO!

The model: Bob had a new Nitrogen Too built for 2007.  We think it's still owned by Bob's mom, Johanna, so he'd better keep the boat in the hunt.  The new boat was built and painted by Jeff Campbell.  The boat looks beautiful and showed its stuff for the first time in CT at the 2007 Harmsworth.  It's another good one in Bob's stable.

The real boat: The Nitrogen Too was owned by Sam DuPont and was driven by Ron Musson.  The boat was teamed with her sister ship, Nitrogen and Gale V as the U.S. Harmsworth team in 1960.  Their Harmsworth bid was unsuccessful, but the Nitrogen Too later won the 1960 Silver Cup over Bill Muncey and the favored Miss Thriftway.  The photo above is of a restored Nitrogen Too produced, in part, by the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum.
