The model:  Mitch built this model because of it's challenging design and unique shape. He drew his own scale plans from a lot of research and pictures. The boat has a unique V-shaped tunnel pulled from ABS plastic. The boat ran much better than expected, but was sometimes tempermental in the corners. It took a lot of tweaking and testing before the season started. Through many nervous moments, it somehow managed to win the CT Division 1 championship in 2021 by a narrow margin.

The real boat:  The boat was built in 1948 and was not very effective. It was redesigned and modified in 1949 and became a much better performing boat. It won the 1949 Harmsworth Trophy race. Unfortunately it is most known for sinking to the bottom of Lake Mead while being towed in after an exhibition run. It spent the next 30 years on the bottom of the lake until finally being recovered. Its aluminum hull was still in remarkably good shape, but there have been no attempts at restoration.
