The model:  Mike debuted this boat at the 2012 Freedom Cup.  It ran fine and now we're sure that Mike will work out the kinks to make it really perform.  It's a beautiful model with real mahogany decking and nice detail.  Steve Dumanis built it for Mike for 2012.  Mike has a few boats in his growing fleet that were built by Steve.

The real boat:  This is the grand old lady owned by Stan Sayres that brought unlimited hydroplane racing to Seattle and captured the hearts of the west coast boatracing fans by winning the 1950 Gold Cup in Detroit.  In 1953 they opted to change to this fiberglass tail to promote a local company called Fiberlay which stills sells composite building products in Seattle.  Mo IV won the Gold Cup that year, successfully defending the second title she had won in 52.
