Boat Statistics
2003 was a successful season for the U.S. 1 team. The boat scored 2nd place finish at the Sayres Memorial and 3rd place finishes in four other races. We don’t know what’s in store for this season for this hull, but it’s certainly been a very competitive race boat. Rumor has it that she will be retired in 2005. About the real boat: World record holder for piston driven hydroplanes at 200.419 MPH. Hull built by Les Staudacher. Equipped with two stage supercharger and intercooler. In WWII aircraft, engine redlined at 3,200 RPM. Hydroplane engine turned 4,000 RPM with 1-3.78 gearratio. Prop turned nearly 16,000 RPM. (From: Motorsports Hall of Fame)
